Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 6, 2026

🔒 This policy describes what LanternScout processes, why, and how third-party services are involved. We aim to collect less than we technically could.

1. Who We Are

LanternScout is operated by LanternScout Technologies Inc. ("LanternScout", "we", "us", or "our"), a British Columbia corporation. We provide an AI-assisted activity discovery service. Our Privacy Officer can be contacted at hello@lanternscout.com.

2. Information We Process

We aim to collect and process only the minimum information reasonably necessary to provide the Service.

Information Why it is processed LanternScout retention
Child's age range To suggest age-appropriate activities Not intentionally retained
Interests/preferences To generate activity suggestions Not intentionally retained
Approximate area To search for nearby activities Not intentionally retained
Technical metadata To operate/secure the service Temporary

User Responsibility: You do not need to provide a child's name, full address, school, exact date of birth, medical diagnosis, or other sensitive details. You agree that you are solely responsible for ensuring that the information you submit does not include such identifying or sensitive personal information.

3. Children's Privacy

LanternScout is designed for use by authorized adults. Children should not submit information directly. We do not intentionally build persistent profiles of children, nor do we sell children's information.

4. How Information Is Processed by Service Providers

To operate LanternScout, information may be processed by independent third-party service providers, including Google (Gemini API, Google Places), Render (hosting), and Cloudflare (security).

Third-Party Liability: These providers process information under their own applicable terms and privacy policies. Their practices are independent of LanternScout, and we are not responsible for their data-handling policies or potential misuse of data once transmitted. We encourage you to review their policies, including Google's Privacy Policy.

5. AI Processing (Gemini API)

LanternScout uses Google Gemini API to generate suggestions. For paid API usage, Google states that prompts and responses are not used to improve its products, but may be logged for limited periods for abuse prevention.

Warning: Because these features are powered by third-party AI models, you should treat any information you submit to the prompt box as if it were being shared with a third-party service. Do not submit sensitive, identifying, or proprietary information.

6. Data Retention and Security

We do not intentionally retain search descriptions after the request is completed. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but you acknowledge that all transmissions of data over the internet carry inherent risks.

In the event of a data security incident, we will fulfill our legal obligations regarding notification and mitigation as required by applicable laws in British Columbia.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on the law that applies to you — including PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws in Canada — you may have rights relating to access, correction, or withdrawal of consent.

Because LanternScout does not intentionally retain search descriptions after processing, we may not have personal search data available to retrieve or delete.

8. International Processing

LanternScout is operated from British Columbia, Canada. Some service providers may process information in other countries. By using the Service, you acknowledge that information may be processed by service providers outside your province or country.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date.

10. Contact Us
