1. About LanternScout

LanternScout is operated by LanternScout Technologies Inc. (BC Registration No. BC1595355) ("LanternScout", "we", "us", or "our"), a British Columbia corporation. We provide an AI-assisted discovery service that helps people of any age explore local classes, camps, activities, and experiences — including adults using it on behalf of a child. The Service is operated from British Columbia, Canada.

LanternScout does not own, operate, staff, supervise, control, vet, screen, license, insure, or endorse any activity provider displayed through the Service. Activity providers are independent third parties.

2. Eligibility and Acceptance

By accessing or using LanternScout (the "Service"), you confirm that you are the age of majority in your jurisdiction. You may use the Service for yourself, or — when searching on behalf of a minor — as their parent, legal guardian, or another adult authorized to do so.

The Service is intended for adults (persons who have reached the age of majority). Minors must not submit information directly through the Service; an authorized adult must do so on their behalf. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

3. Discovery Tool Only — Not an Endorsement

LanternScout is a discovery tool only. The Service uses artificial intelligence to suggest activity types, summarize publicly available information, organize listings, assemble suggested day plans (itineraries), and surface providers and venues that may be relevant to the information you submit.

Displaying, ranking, summarizing, or suggesting an activity or provider does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, verification, certification, or guarantee by LanternScout.

Assumption of Risk: By using LanternScout, you acknowledge that we do not conduct background checks, site visits, safety audits, or any verification of activity providers. You expressly assume all risks associated with your participation, and the participation of others in your group (including any child), in any activity found through the Service. Your decision to contact, enroll in, pay for, or attend any activity is based entirely on your own independent due diligence.

Listings, ratings, summaries, images, hours, prices, availability, and other provider information may be sourced from Google Places, provider websites, AI generation, or other third-party sources. This information may be incomplete, inaccurate, AI-generated, or out of date. You are solely responsible for verifying all information directly with the provider before registering or paying.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LanternScout is not responsible for the acts, omissions, negligence, conduct, services, facilities, staff, contractors, or policies of any third-party activity provider.

3A. Day Planner — Always Double-Check Before You Go

What the Day Planner is

The Day Planner suggests activities, an order for them, estimated times and travel times, local events, and lunch and coffee or treat stops for a day you choose or, if you don't choose one, your next day off (a usual weekend day in the country of the location you enter, or a public holiday there). It combines information from third-party sources (including Google Maps Platform, Open-Meteo, Ticketmaster, provider websites, and AI) with your choices. We do not book, reserve, or sell tickets or admission, and we are not a travel agent, tour operator, event organizer, or transportation provider. Every venue, provider, and event shown is an independent third party.

Everything shown is an estimate

Suggested start times, visit lengths, opening and closing times, "closes soon" notes, travel times (driving, public transport, or walking), total travel time, distances, weather forecasts, prices and price ranges, ratings, review counts, photos, and event dates may be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. A venue may be closed, full, or under different hours than shown — for example on holidays, for private events, in bad weather, for renovation, or permanently — and may require advance booking or have changed its prices or rules. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any of it.

What you must check before you go

You are solely responsible for checking, directly with each venue or organizer and from official sources, at least the following:

• opening days, hours, and any closures;
• admission prices, tickets, reservations, capacity, and cancellation terms;
• age, height, weight, skill, clothing, or equipment requirements, waivers, and supervision rules;
• accessibility, facilities, and whether the venue suits each person in your group, including any mobility, sensory, medical, or communication needs;
• health and safety conditions, staffing, and the weather on the day;
• parking, transport, public transport schedules and service changes, road and walking conditions, and travel time;
• event dates, start times, and whether an event is still taking place; and
• menus, ingredients, allergens, and dietary suitability (see below).

Food and dietary preferences

Lunch and coffee, ice cream, or treat stops are suggested by search and are not recommendations or endorsements. Food preferences you choose (such as vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, or gluten-free) are used only as search hints. We do not verify any menu, ingredient, preparation method, certification (including halal or kosher certification), or cross-contact risk, and results may not match your preference. Do not rely on LanternScout for allergies, medical conditions, religious observance, or any strict dietary requirement. Always ask the venue directly. We are not responsible for any reaction, illness, or dissatisfaction resulting from food.

Ages and age-appropriateness

You tell us who is going, and we try to use that to favor suggestions that fit the youngest age in the group and to steer away from venues and events centered on alcohol, vaping, cannabis, or other age-restricted content when a minor is included. This filtering is automated, based on venue and event names and descriptions, and is not verified against any venue's actual age policy, content, or the specifics of your child. It can miss things, including age-restricted content that is not obvious from a name. We do not warrant that any suggestion is safe, suitable, or age-appropriate for any individual. You are responsible for reviewing every suggested activity, food stop, and event yourself and deciding whether it is appropriate for each person in your group before you go.

Needs, sensitivities, and accessibility

If you describe a person's needs, sensitivities, or preferences (for example that they prefer quiet places), the Service may try to steer suggestions accordingly, but it cannot assess whether any place is suitable, safe, quiet, uncrowded, or accessible for any individual, and places can be noisy or busy at any time. We do not label any venue as sensory-friendly, accessible, or suitable for any condition, and nothing in the Service is a diagnosis, assessment, or professional advice. Your own judgment, planning, and supervision always come first.

Getting there

Maps, routes, and travel times are estimates only and are not turn-by-turn navigation. The Service infers how your group will travel (by car, public transport, or on foot) from what you write and where you are, and it may get that wrong. Travel times can be affected by traffic, closures, construction, weather, parking, and public transport schedules and disruptions. Follow traffic laws and posted signs, do not use the Service while driving, and use an official navigation source. You are responsible for choosing when and how to travel and for your own safe travel. We are not responsible for delays, missed bookings, fines, accidents, or costs arising from any route or timing.

Weather, outdoor, and physical activities

Weather information comes from a third party and can change. Outdoor, water, farm, animal, climbing, and other active or physical activities carry inherent risks. Children must be supervised at all times. The assumption of risk in section 3 applies to everything suggested by the Day Planner.

Events

Events are organized by third parties and may be changed, rescheduled, cancelled, or sold out. We do not verify events and do not sell tickets. Confirm details with the organizer.

Your choices

You choose the activities and food stops that make up your plan. The plan reflects your choices and our estimates, and it assumes things — such as a morning start, typical visit lengths, how you will travel, and, unless you pick a day, which day is your day off — that may not suit you. You are responsible for your decisions and for adjusting the plan to your circumstances.

Third-party content

Photos, ratings, reviews, hours, links, and other details shown in a plan come from third parties such as Google. We do not create, control, or verify them, and they may be inaccurate or removed at any time. Some of these details are held briefly on our servers so that plans load faster, which means a detail may have changed at the venue since we last received it — another reason to check with the venue directly.

Leaving the Service

Tapping a venue's name opens that venue's own website, or its listing on Google Maps where we have no website for it. Those sites are operated by other people and are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not ours. We do not control them, we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or safety, and a link is not a recommendation or an endorsement.

Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LanternScout Technologies Inc. is not responsible or liable for any loss, injury, illness, damage, cost, delay, wasted trip, closed or unavailable venue, or disappointment arising from following, relying on, or being unable to follow a Day Planner plan. You use the Day Planner entirely at your own risk. Sections 14 (Disclaimer of Warranties), 15 (Limitation of Liability), and 16 (Indemnification) apply.

4. Acceptable Use and Information You Must Not Submit

You agree to provide only information that you have the legal right to share and only the minimum information reasonably necessary to use the Service.

Do not submit a child's full name, school, exact home address, contact information, precise location, date of birth, medical diagnosis, health records, photographs, financial information, government identification, or other identifying or sensitive personal information. The Service is not designed to receive or protect such information.

You must not:

• use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or harmful purpose;
• submit content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, discriminatory, defamatory, or otherwise inappropriate;
• attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, bypass, or interfere with the Service's safety systems or AI features;
• scrape, reverse-engineer, overload, disrupt, or misuse the Service or its underlying APIs;
• use bots, scripts, or automated tools without our prior written permission;
• impersonate another person or submit information about another person without appropriate authorization; or
• use the Service in a way that violates applicable law or causes LanternScout to violate a third-party service provider's terms or policies.

Because our AI features are powered by Google, your use of them must also comply with Google's Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy. Use of map and places features is also subject to Google Maps Platform Terms of Service.

We may block, filter, rate-limit, suspend, or terminate access to the Service at any time where we reasonably believe that misuse, security risks, or violations of these Terms have occurred.

5. Service Limits

To keep the Service available and fair for all users, we apply usage limits. Free use includes a monthly allowance shared between Scout searches and Day Planner plans (currently 3 per month in total, per person: each free use is counted against both your browser and your internet connection, and the allowance ends when either is used up, so other browsers or private windows on the same connection share it, as do people using the same connection), plus daily limits per network and a maximum number of AI website reviews per day. LanternScout+ subscribers receive a much higher monthly allowance, subject to fair use (see section 11). Limits may change at any time. Attempts to circumvent limits through proxies, VPNs, clearing browser data, or other means are a violation of these Terms.

6. AI-Generated Content

Some content on LanternScout — including activity suggestions, listing summaries, category notes, provider website summaries, and the descriptions and "why we chose this" notes in Day Planner plans — is generated or assisted by artificial intelligence.

Probabilistic nature: AI models are probabilistic and may produce inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate outputs, sometimes called "hallucinations." You agree that you will not rely solely on AI-generated content for time-sensitive, safety-critical, or professional decisions.

Suggestions, not decisions: Everything LanternScout produces — activity ideas, summaries, plans, itineraries, opening hours, prices, travel times, event selections, and food suggestions — is a suggestion only. You are responsible for the final decision about where to go, what to do, and whether it is suitable and safe for you and anyone you are with. This includes checking age suitability, accessibility, allergies and dietary needs, weather, transport, costs, and opening and booking requirements directly with each venue, and supervising children appropriately. To the fullest extent permitted by law, LanternScout is not responsible for decisions made or actions taken based on its suggestions.

AI-generated content is provided as a starting point for your own investigation only. LanternScout does not provide medical, psychological, developmental, educational, legal, or other professional advice. The Service does not diagnose, assess, or evaluate any child.

If you receive content that appears inappropriate, harmful, or incorrect, stop relying on it and contact us at admin@lanternscout.com.

7. Children's Information

LanternScout is intended to be used by adults, including adults using the Service for themselves or on behalf of children. When you submit general information about a child (such as an age range or description of interests), you confirm that you are that child's parent, legal guardian, or an adult with appropriate authorization to do so, and that you will not submit identifying or sensitive information about the child.

The Day Planner also asks for the ages of the people in your group, which may include adults. Do not enter names. Information you submit may be processed temporarily and sent to third-party service providers, including Google Gemini, Google Places, and Google Routes, as described in our Privacy Policy. Child descriptions are not stored by LanternScout after the request completes.

8. Anonymous Analytics

By using the Service, you acknowledge that LanternScout collects analytics to understand how the Service is used and to improve it, including, where applicable, a random session identifier, age ranges, approximate locations (city level), activity categories, and usage events. For visitors from the EU, EEA, or UK, the session identifier is not stored in our analytics records. No names, email addresses, IP addresses, or full locations are stored in our analytics database. See our Privacy Policy for full details, including exactly what each record does and does not contain.

9. Feedback Submissions

Feedback you submit (including star ratings, written comments, and usage satisfaction responses) may be used to improve the Service. If you checked the option to allow anonymous sharing of your feedback, you allow us to use your comment anonymously to improve the Service and in future promotional materials. We review shared comments before any publication. You may withdraw this permission at any time by contacting us at admin@lanternscout.com.

Do not include personal information, your child's name, or sensitive details in feedback comments.

10. Permission to Process Submissions

You retain any rights you may have in the information you submit. By submitting information, you grant LanternScout Technologies Inc. a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to process that information solely as reasonably necessary to: operate the Service, generate results, improve the Service (using anonymous analytics and feedback), protect the Service from abuse, and comply with applicable law.

11. Free Use, LanternScout+ Subscription, and Contributions

Free use. LanternScout is free to try, within the monthly limits described in section 5.

LanternScout+. LanternScout+ is an optional paid subscription that gives a much higher monthly allowance of Scout searches and Day Planner plans (12 per month in total). The price is $7.99 CAD per month, or $69.99 CAD per year if you choose annual billing; the currency and any applicable taxes are shown at checkout before you pay. It is billed in advance (monthly or yearly, as you chose) through Stripe and renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. The monthly allowance below is the same on both, and resets each month even on an annual plan. Fair use: each subscription includes 12 lanterns a month, and each Scout search or Day Planner plan uses one. If they are used up, the Service pauses for that subscription until the allowance renews at the start of the next month. We may change the price or what is included by giving advance notice; changes do not affect a period you have already paid for.

Cancelling and refunds. You can cancel at any time using "Manage subscription" (which opens Stripe's secure customer portal) or by emailing admin@lanternscout.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have paid for, and you keep access until then. Payments already made are not refundable, except where required by law or if you were charged in error — contact us and we will review it.

Access on your devices. Your subscription is linked to your browser by a private access code. Please do not share it: a subscription is for your own personal, non-commercial use on up to 5 devices, and we may limit or suspend access that we reasonably believe is shared or abused. To use your subscription on a new device, choose "Restore access", which emails a one-time link to the address you subscribed with.

Voluntary contributions. Separately, you may make an optional voluntary contribution to support the Service through Stripe (our secure Stripe donation page). Contributions are entirely optional and are not required to access any feature of the Service. By paying or contributing through Stripe, you agree to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.

12. Third-Party Services and External Links

LanternScout relies on third-party services to operate, including Google (Gemini API, Google Places, Google Geocoding, Google Routes, Google Maps, Google Fonts, and Google Cloud for hosting and database), Open-Meteo (weather), Ticketmaster (local events), and Cloudflare (network security, delivery, and the Turnstile human check). When you interact with a third-party activity provider or leave LanternScout via an external link, that third party's terms and privacy practices apply. Review them carefully before providing personal information or making a payment.

13. No Emergency, Medical, or Professional Service

LanternScout is not an emergency service and is not a substitute for professional judgment. Do not use LanternScout to make decisions that require medical, psychological, legal, educational, or other professional advice. Contact an appropriate qualified professional or emergency service where needed.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, LanternScout Technologies Inc. expressly disclaims all express, implied, and statutory warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any information provided through the Service is accurate, complete, or current.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LanternScout Technologies Inc. and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from:

• your use of or inability to use the Service;
• reliance on AI-generated content, activity suggestions, or provider summaries;
• the acts, omissions, conduct, services, or negligence of any third-party activity provider;
• third-party listings, external websites, or content linked from the Service; or
• any unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 or the total amount paid by you to LanternScout in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Class Action Waiver: To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against LanternScout Technologies Inc. regarding any claim arising out of your use of the Service.

16. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless LanternScout Technologies Inc. and its directors, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, losses, damages, judgments, awards, costs, and reasonable legal expenses arising out of or relating to: (a) your violation of these Terms; (b) your use of the Service in a manner not authorized by these Terms; (c) your violation of any third party's rights; or (d) your submission of information that is unlawful, inaccurate, or that violates another person's privacy.

17. Changes, Suspension, and Availability

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time by posting a revised version. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after the revised Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, stop using the Service.

18. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia, Canada.

19. General Provisions

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and LanternScout Technologies Inc. with respect to the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
